What better way to get your little ones loving their veg! These fabulous toy vegetables come in a set of five including a carrot, califlower, corn on the cob, aubergine and radish, all beautifully hand knitted using vibrant 100% soft cotton yarn. Each vegetable contains a rattle making it perfect for young babies to play and learn but would also make equally great toys for older children during imaginative play (shopping, tea parties and picnics!).
These items are all fairly traded from Bangladesh, made by disadvantaged women in rural areas where they are taught hand knitting, crochet and hand embroidery. All the workers are over the age of 18 and all the training is provided free of charge to enable individuals to gain employment. The aim of the rural centre is to provide work within the community and to try and prevent worker migration to the cities.The centre is located within the community, no more than about 5 minutes walk from the workers home. There are also education opprtunities, health and social care available and the project is a member of the Ecota Fair Trade Forum (the body for Fair Trade in Bangladesh).
